Another easy Sunday morning calls for another opportunity to brunch it up. So, Parkside Restaurant in downtown Raleigh it was. We happened to go on a day they were serving up a pretty unique take on a spicy chicken biscuit. Spoiler alert, it involved strawberries…

We Finally Made it to Parkside
We had been meaning to try Parkside for a hot minute and always forgot about them when it came time to grab brunch. BUT this weekend we did a thing and actually remembered. [Hold your applause] No reservation needed, we rolled up at about noon on a Sunday and had no problem getting a seat. Our waiter was HILARIOUS and kept the Larry’s coffee flowing. Naturally, a great start to any brunch if you ask me.
What We Ordered
- Special: Strawberry Habanero Chicken Biscuit
- Chicken + Waffle Sandwich
- Tater Tot Hash
- Mac + Cheese
- Larry’s Coffee
- Water [No mimosas because I hit the brewskis a little to hard the night before]
Let’s chat. Not going to lie. Strawberries. Habanero. Chicken. Biscuit. That combination didn’t jump out at us in a good way first off. However, we’re adventurous enough eaters to know that it’s easy to be surprised by flavor pairings. Randy was picturing a strong sour strawberry flavor, while I was thinking more along the lines of a strawberry gel with hot sauce. NO NO and NO! This biscuit surprised the hell out of us in a very delicious way. The strawberry carried the habanero very well and was very light in flavor. If I didn’t know strawberry was in it, I may have not noticed it all. The biscuit wasn’t too spicy either. The chicken was tender, fried perfectly! Flaky biscuit and great chicken, we were sold. Once again, another example of you can’t knock it until you try it. I wouldn’t be surprise if this stays on the menu for a while as strawberries remain in season.

You see the picture. I don’t have to say much else. This Chicken and Waffles sandwich was so YUM! Parkside is changing up the traditional recipe. Instead of your plain ole’ waffle, they have a perfectly fried piece of chicken sandwiched between two GARLIC + ROSEMARY waffles. Yes, both garlic and rosemary. Get on their level. And you better get out of here with that regular maple syrup, no sir. They’re topping theirs with harissa maple which added a little sweet heat. This is a regular menu item and I for one am glad. If you’re on the fence about what to get, I’d say the chicken and waffles all day. If you’re not a chicken and waffles fan, I’m sorry your palate is basic.
See you at Parkside!
